How Do We Know God Exists?

How Do We Know God Exists

There are various kinds of ways that God reveals Himself to us and they all point to the fact that He exists. God is revealed to us through His creation, the Bible, and through personal relationships with us through Christ. In my experience, when this question comes up, it’s typically because someone is seeking after God whether they would like to admit it or not.

If you are having this conversation with someone or if you are asking this question yourself, I’d like to encourage you not to worry about having doubts and questions about God. I would trust God and ask Him to reveal more of Himself to you each and everyday.

Here are three ways we can know that God exists:

Nature Reveals The Existence Of God

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork.” – Psalm 19:1

There must be a designer behind every design. This type of revelation is available to all people, at all times, and in every place. Just by looking at the picture within this post, you can see that someone had to create that. These types of things don’t just happen to pop up out of nowhere. Besides, something happens when we take a moment out of our day to look at beauty like this.

Besides creation, there is also an internal source of revelation, which we would call the conscience. We have a moral sense of right and wrong which reveals God to us.

“For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them.” – Romans 2:14-15

The Bible Reveals God To Us

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” – 2 Timothy 3:16-17

For most of us asking this question, we don’t have to go too far to get answers because we have the Bible readily available to us. What’s amazing about Scripture is that it reveals specifics about God. Many people do not know what is contained in the Bible and while they may recognize beauty through creation, they miss out on so much more that is revealed about God through His perfect word.

My encouragement to you would be to at least look into reading the Bible for yourself. Don’t just listen to popular opinions or just read blogs (even this one) for all the answers. If you are seeking if God exists, it would be well worth your time to check out the Bible since that is a primary way God reveals Himself to us. There are plenty of free resources out there, including going to www.bible.com.

God’s Revelation To Us Is Through His Son, Jesus Christ

“No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, He has made Him known.” – John 1:18

The strongest way we can know that God exists is through personal knowledge that comes along with believing that Jesus is the Son of God and the Savior of the world. Salvation is through Him and Him alone who delivers us from sin. Jesus came to reveal the person and nature of God.

“Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.” – John 14:9-11

We can read in Scripture everything that Jesus did when He was here and how He lived. His actions show us the character of God in multiple ways and we can ultimately know that God exists through a personal relationship with Christ.
