But Made Himself Nothing

“Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” – Philippians 2:5-11

It was the birthday of the King. The point in history when our Lord Jesus would come into this world and magnificently rescue and restore His people. The Creator of this world, the One whom we were created by and for. And yet He was clothed not in splendor and royalty, but in humility, as a servant. He was wrapped in flesh, as a man, as one of whom He had created. I heard someone say once that these four words might be the most amazing words in the Bible – “but made himself nothing.”

Who are we that He would be mindful of us? Who are we that He would subject Himself to serve us? That He would humble Himself to the point of death on a cross, the death that we deserved.

What an amazing gift! What a humbling, and life transforming gift – Jesus! May we love Him with all that we are.

Prayer this week: that we would be humbled by our King who made Himself nothing so that we could be made into something, to the adoration and glory of our great God!

I love you guys. Press on!
