Every Day Is A New Year

The end of the year is a time that I reflect upon my life and future. There were a lot of things that I expected to accomplish by now. I thought I would be married and start a family. I thought I would be pretty established in my career. I thought at this stage in my life that I would have figured it out by now. I haven’t accomplished any of these things. It can be discouraging when your friends and family achieve your dreams. Facebook, Twitter, Instgram posts show them getting engaged, jobs, kids, and more. I want to be in those situations, I want those happy moments. I feel that I am not even close to reaching those dreams.

Fortunately we have started a new year. We can say goodbye to the old and hello to the new. A new year symbolizes an opportunity where our dreams can come true. The year is not written yet, so anything is possible. We make resolutions and goals to get us one step closer to our dream. Sometimes we do not have complete control of our life. There are times where obstacles and circumstances can halt our plans.

We fall short of our intentions and goals. Even though new opportunities can bring excitement, it can also bring anxiety. We don’t know whether our dreams will be accomplished or fulfilled. There is a God who knows our past, present, and future. God makes every day, minute, hour, and moment new in our lives. Those new moments give us hope!

Time goes by way too quickly. Sometimes we think that our window is shrinking. God is bigger than our expectations and timetables. God is omnipresent which means that God is present everywhere. God is not limited by space or time because He is with us in all aspects of life. Our lives can be a big unknown to us, but they are not unknown to God.

“For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not calamity to give you a future and hope” Jeremiah 29:11.

God knows the detailed moments of our past, present, and future. God sets specific plans for each of our lives. We can be confident that our lives have purpose and reason. He knows our future before we know it. We can be confident in our future because God has already planned it. God promises good things to his children.

There are so many things that can happen in our lives that we can never truly have full control. Also it makes it impossible for us to know what to expect in our lives. We need to trust and believe that God has a plan for us.

“The Lord’s loving-kindness indeed never cease, For His companions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23).

Jeremiah mentions how their lives looked bleak based on their current circumstances. They still had reason to hope because God had the power to change anything in a second. There was a moment in all of our lives where something changed our lives completely. For those of us who believe in Christ, there was a day where we had not come to accept Him in our lives. The next day, month, year, minute, and second, we accepted Him in our lives and our lives changed completely. God provides every second of time to be an opportunity for new starts, beginnings, and journeys. We always have a reason to be hopeful in any circumstance.

We are given a lot of reasons to trust God with our future. When we do not see the end results, then it can be easy to doubt.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight” Proverbs 3:5-6.

There are so many aspects of life that is out of our control. It is important that we trust God with our heart, mind, and soul. We cannot lean on our understanding because we are not all knowing like God. We do not need to know the results of our life. When we trust Him with our lives, then the future does not have to be so anxious or scary. God will be there to provide clarification and guidance of our future. He may change our dreams and goals.

There are many things that will happen in the year 2016. Sometimes ambiguity can be scary. We want to know that our lives are going to turn out well.

“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31.

God’s character and will provide a reason that we can have hope. God can change all circumstances within a second. Sometimes our goals and dreams may not fit into God’s plan. God’s plan for us will always be greater than our perceived plans. We always have reason for hope. I hope that you believe and trust God with your life. God gives us plenty of reasons to be confident in His will for our lives. I hope that God provides you with that new moment in your life that changes everything.

Happy 2016!
