Friendship is crucial for believers as we strive to become more like Christ in our daily walk. We need our brothers and sisters in Christ for encouragement, rebuke, and because God calls us to be in community. We are not to live in isolation. Since it involves such a large portion of our lives, here is what the Bible has to say with Scripture on Friendship:
Proverbs 17:17 – A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
Romans 12:10 – To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.”
John 15:13 – Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 – Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!
Proverbs 18:24 – A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Proverbs 13:20 – Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.
Proverbs 27:17 – Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.
Proverbs 27:6 – Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy.
Psalm 133:1 -Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!
